Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Yellow cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1/3 cup Honey
  • 1/3 cup Unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 Large eggs

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 400°F and grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
  2. Whisk the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt together in a medium bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, honey, melted butter, and eggs until blended.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and stir just until combined. A few small lumps are fine.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  6. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, checking near the 20-minute mark, until golden and a toothpick comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Cool the cornbread for approximately 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Use room-temperature milk and eggs so the melted butter stays fluid when mixed. Do not overmix the batter. Honey encourages quicker browning, so begin checking the cornbread near 20 minutes.
