Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 can (8 ounces) Refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
  • 24 approximately 1-ounce meatballs Frozen, fully cooked Italian-style meatballs, thawed
  • 1/2 cup Pizza sauce
  • 1/2 cup, about 2 ounces Shredded mozzarella cheese

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Separate the crescent dough into 8 triangles. Cut each triangle lengthwise into 3 narrow triangles to create 24 dough pieces.
  3. Place one thawed meatball at the wide end of each narrow dough piece. Add approximately 1/2 teaspoon pizza sauce and about 1 teaspoon shredded mozzarella to each meatball.
  4. Roll each piece of dough from the wide end toward the point, enclosing the meatball and filling. Place each roll point-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the crescent dough is puffed and golden brown. Check that the pastry looks fully baked around the sides and top.
  6. Remove the bites from the oven and let them rest briefly so the hot filling settles. Serve warm with additional pizza sauce for dipping if desired.

Notes

Thaw the meatballs before assembling so the crescent dough bakes evenly and the centers are not cool. Avoid overfilling with sauce or cheese because excess filling may leak during baking. Keep each bite point-side down on the baking sheet. Turkey, beef, or vegetarian fully cooked meatballs may be used, and a small pinch of Italian seasoning or some provolone can replace part or all of the mozzarella.
