Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup (340 g) Honey
  • 2 tablespoons Crushed red-pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon Apple-cider vinegar
Optional Heat
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne pepper

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Add the honey and crushed red-pepper flakes to a small saucepan. Warm over low heat for 2–3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the honey is hot and fluid but never boiling.
  2. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the apple-cider vinegar. Add the optional cayenne pepper now if you want a sharper, hotter finish.
  3. Let the mixture steep for 5–10 minutes so the pepper flavor can infuse into the honey. Taste carefully and add more pepper flakes or cayenne if desired.
  4. Use the hot honey immediately, or strain out the pepper flakes through a fine-mesh strainer for a smoother sauce. Transfer to a clean jar and cool before sealing.

Notes

Keep the honey over low heat and do not let it boil. Store in a clean sealed jar at room temperature for short-term use or refrigerate for longer storage; gently warm a refrigerated jar before serving.
