Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup (226 g; 2 sticks) Unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, finely minced or pressed
Fresh Herbs
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh chives, finely chopped
Seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon, or to taste Fine sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Freshly ground black pepper
Optional Lemon
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon Finely grated lemon zest

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Leave the butter at room temperature until very soft but not melted. For a milder, sweeter garlic flavor, gently sauté the minced garlic in 1 teaspoon of the butter for 1–2 minutes, then cool it completely.
  2. Add the softened butter, garlic, parsley, chives, salt, pepper, and optional lemon juice and zest to a mixing bowl.
  3. Mix thoroughly with a spoon, spatula, or hand mixer until the herbs and garlic are evenly distributed throughout the butter.
  4. Taste and adjust the salt, garlic, or lemon according to preference. Use immediately, or shape the butter into a log on parchment or plastic wrap, wrap tightly, and refrigerate until firm.

Notes

Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 1 week, or freeze for about 2–3 months. Slice off portions as needed. If using salted butter, reduce or omit the added salt and adjust after tasting.
