Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 package, about 12 to 14 ounces or approximately 18 to 24 sticks Frozen breaded fish sticks
Creamy Sauce
  • 1 can, 10.5 to 10.75 ounces Condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
  • 1/2 cup Milk
Vegetables and Cheese
  • 1 cup frozen or 1 can about 15 ounces Frozen peas, preferably thawed, or canned peas, well drained
  • 1 cup Shredded cheddar cheese
Optional Topping
  • 1/2 cup Crushed potato chips, buttered breadcrumbs, or French-fried onions

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8-inch square or similar 2-quart casserole dish.
  2. Whisk the undiluted condensed cream of mushroom soup and milk together in a bowl until smooth.
  3. Arrange about half of the frozen fish sticks in the prepared dish. Spread the peas over the fish sticks, then pour the soup mixture evenly over them.
  4. Add the remaining fish sticks and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top. Add the optional crunchy topping now, or reserve it for the final 10 minutes.
  5. Bake uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes, until the casserole is bubbling, the cheese is melted, and the fish sticks are heated through. The center should reach at least 165°F.
  6. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving so the creamy sauce settles slightly and the portions are easier to scoop.

Notes

Do not thaw the fish sticks first. Drain canned peas very well, and add cheese or crunchy toppings during the final 5 to 10 minutes if they brown too quickly.
