Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 package, 14-15 ounces total Refrigerated pie crusts
  • 1 can, about 20-21 ounces Apple pie filling
Egg wash
  • 1 large egg, beaten Large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Water
Topping and Serving
  • 1/4 cup Cinnamon sugar
  • As needed for dipping Caramel sauce

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll both refrigerated pie crusts and cut them into narrow strips approximately 1/2 inch wide and 2-3 inches long.
  3. Chop or briefly pulse the canned apple pie filling until the apple pieces are small enough to fit between the pastry strips.
  4. Place a small amount of filling on one pastry strip, leaving a border around the edges. Cover with a second strip, press the edges together, and crimp with a fork.
  5. Arrange the assembled fries on the prepared baking sheet. If the pastry has become soft, chill the pieces for 10-15 minutes before baking.
  6. Whisk the egg with the water and brush the mixture over the pastry. Sprinkle generously with cinnamon sugar.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until golden brown and crisp. Cool slightly and serve with warmed caramel sauce.

Notes

Pulse the apple pie filling before assembling so large chunks do not make the small pastry fries difficult to seal. Chill assembled pieces for 10-15 minutes if the dough becomes soft; this helps them hold their shape and encourages flaky layers.
