Step-by-Step
- Pat the pork chops dry with paper towels. Rub both sides with olive oil, then combine the French onion soup mix, garlic powder, and black pepper and press the seasoning mixture over both sides of each chop.
- Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for about 3 minutes. Arrange the pork chops in a single layer with space between them so hot air can circulate.
- Air-fry the pork chops for approximately 10 to 14 minutes, turning halfway through cooking. Thicker chops may need 15 to 18 minutes, so begin checking the thickest part with an instant-read thermometer as they near doneness.
- When the pork is nearly cooked, top each chop with shredded cheese and French-fried crispy onions. Return the chops to the air fryer for 1 to 3 minutes, just until the cheese melts and the onions are crisp.
- Confirm that the thickest part of each pork chop has reached 145°F (63°C). Rest the chops for 3 minutes before serving.
Notes
Use pork chops of similar thickness for even cooking, and start checking thinner chops early because air fryers cook quickly. The French onion soup mix is salty, so additional salt usually is not needed. Add the cheese and crispy onions near the end to prevent overbrowning or burning.
