Step-by-Step
- Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
- Unroll one tube of crescent dough and press it into the bottom of the prepared dish, pinching the seams together to form an even crust.
- Beat the softened cream cheese with about 3/4 cup of the sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla until the filling is creamy and evenly combined.
- Spread the cream-cheese mixture evenly over the bottom crust.
- Place the second sheet of crescent dough over the filling and gently seal or pinch the seams.
- Mix the remaining 1/4 cup sugar with the cinnamon, then sprinkle the mixture evenly over the top dough.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the top is golden and the center is set. Cool the dish, then refrigerate the bars until firm for at least 1 hour.
- Cut the chilled dessert into 16 squares with a sharp knife and serve chilled or slightly cool.
Notes
Fully soften the cream cheese before mixing to prevent lumps. For clean cuts, wipe the knife between slices. A richer variation can include 1/2 cup melted butter brushed over the top dough before the cinnamon sugar, but that makes the recipe seven ingredients.
