  • 2 21-ounce cans Cherry pie filling
  • 1 15.25-ounce box Yellow or white cake mix, used dry
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) Butter, sliced thin or melted

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
  2. Spread both cans of cherry pie filling evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  3. Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the cherry layer. Do not prepare the cake mix according to the package directions.
  4. Cover the cake mix with thin, evenly distributed butter slices, or drizzle melted butter across the entire surface.
  5. Bake for 45–50 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the cherry filling is bubbling around the edges.
  6. Let the dump cake stand for 10–15 minutes before serving warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Keep the layers separate and do not stir. Thin butter slices or evenly drizzled melted butter help reduce dry patches across the topping.
