Easy 2-Ingredient Cherry Bars Recipe

Easy 2-Ingredient Cherry Bars

These tender cherry bars require only cake mix and canned cherry pie filling. The thick batter bakes into a soft, fruity dessert with golden edges and visible cherry pieces.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 box, about 15.25–16.25 ounces White, yellow, or angel-food cake mix
  • 1 can, about 21 ounces Cherry pie filling

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9 x 13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Add the dry cake mix and cherry pie filling to a mixing bowl. Stir just until the ingredients are evenly combined; the mixture will be thick and may contain visible cherry pieces.
  3. Transfer the batter to the prepared pan. Use a lightly greased spatula or damp hands to spread and press it into an even layer.
  4. Bake for approximately 25 to 30 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and the center is set.
  5. Cool the bars completely, allowing at least 20 to 30 minutes before cutting. Slice into squares and serve.

Notes

Do not add the water, eggs, or oil listed on the cake-mix box. For lighter, more cake-like bars, use angel-food cake mix; they may finish closer to 20 to 25 minutes depending on the pan and oven. Store cooled bars covered at room temperature for a short period or refrigerate for longer storage.
