Step-by-Step
- Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly coat an 8-inch square baking pan with cooking spray, and line it with parchment paper if desired.
- Whisk the flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, and table salt together in a bowl.
- In a separate large bowl, whisk the granulated sugar, unsweetened applesauce, canola oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Stir just until no dry flour remains, taking care not to overmix.
- Fold in the dark chocolate chips, distributing them throughout the batter.
- Spread the batter evenly in the prepared 8-inch square pan.
- Bake for 22 to 25 minutes, or until the center is set and a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool the brownies in the pan for at least 15 minutes before cutting them into 16 squares.
Notes
For fudgier brownies, remove them when a toothpick shows a few moist crumbs rather than waiting for it to come out completely clean. Cool fully for cleaner slices, and use a parchment sling to lift the brownies from the pan. WW points and cooking spray amounts can vary by program update.
