Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • As needed Cooking spray, for the pan
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Table salt
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup Unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup Canola oil
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup Dark chocolate chips

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly coat an 8-inch square baking pan with cooking spray, and line it with parchment paper if desired.
  2. Whisk the flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, and table salt together in a bowl.
  3. In a separate large bowl, whisk the granulated sugar, unsweetened applesauce, canola oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Stir just until no dry flour remains, taking care not to overmix.
  5. Fold in the dark chocolate chips, distributing them throughout the batter.
  6. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared 8-inch square pan.
  7. Bake for 22 to 25 minutes, or until the center is set and a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Cool the brownies in the pan for at least 15 minutes before cutting them into 16 squares.

Notes

For fudgier brownies, remove them when a toothpick shows a few moist crumbs rather than waiting for it to come out completely clean. Cool fully for cleaner slices, and use a parchment sling to lift the brownies from the pan. WW points and cooking spray amounts can vary by program update.
