Step-by-Step
- Combine 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves, avoid an extended boil, then remove the pan from the heat and let the syrup cool.
- Add the strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and about 1 cup of the cold water to a blender. Blend until the berries become smooth and juicy.
- For smoother lemonade, pour the berry puree through a fine-mesh strainer into a large pitcher and press the solids to extract as much juice as possible. Leave the puree unstrained if you prefer a thicker, more rustic texture.
- Add the lemon juice, cooled simple syrup, and remaining 3 cups cold water to the pitcher. Stir thoroughly until the berry mixture, lemon juice, syrup, and water are evenly combined.
- Taste the lemonade and adjust it with more water if it is too strong, more sugar syrup if it is too tart, or more lemon juice if you want sharper acidity. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving over ice.
Notes
Freshly squeezed lemon juice gives the best flavor. Chill the lemonade before adding ice so it does not become diluted too quickly. Store covered in the refrigerator and stir before serving because natural berry pulp may settle.
