Step-by-Step
- Trim excess fat from the chicken breasts and place them in the slow-cooker insert in an even layer.
- Whisk the barbecue sauce, Italian dressing, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce together in a bowl until the sugar is well distributed.
- Pour the sauce over the chicken, turning each piece so it is coated on all sides.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours, beginning to check around 4 hours, until the chicken is tender and reaches 165°F internally. For a faster option, cook on HIGH for about 2 to 3 hours and check early.
- Remove the chicken and shred it with two forks, or serve the breasts whole. Stir some of the cooking sauce back into the shredded chicken before serving.
Notes
Use thawed chicken rather than frozen chicken for more even cooking and safer temperature control. Do not overcook boneless chicken breasts. Chicken thighs may be substituted because they are more forgiving. For thicker sauce, simmer the cooking liquid briefly in a saucepan after removing the chicken.
