- Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
- Spread the blueberry pie filling over one side or section of the prepared dish, then spread the cherry pie filling over the remaining area to create a red-and-blue pattern.
- Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the entire fruit layer. Do not stir the cake mix into the pie filling.
- Pour the melted butter slowly and evenly over the cake mix, covering as much of the dry surface as possible.
- Bake for 45–50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling around the edges.
- Let the cake rest for 10–15 minutes before serving warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or sprinkles.
Notes
Pour the melted butter slowly to reduce dry patches. Use pie filling rather than plain canned fruit because pie filling provides the sugar and thickener needed for the classic jammy texture.
