The Easiest Crockpot Ham Recipe

A fully cooked spiral-sliced ham warms gently in the slow cooker with brown sugar, honey or maple syrup, and pineapple juice for a tender centerpiece with a glossy, flavorful glaze.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 6-8 pound ham Fully cooked spiral-sliced bone-in ham
Glaze
  • 1 cup Light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup Honey or pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup Pineapple juice
Optional Flavorings
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground cloves

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Remove all packaging from the ham, including any plastic disk attached near the bone. Place the ham cut-side down in a 6- to 8-quart slow cooker, trimming a small amount if needed so the lid can close.
  2. Sprinkle the packed brown sugar over the ham, working some gently between the spiral slices. Pour the pineapple juice around the ham, then drizzle the honey or maple syrup over the top.
  3. Add the Dijon mustard and ground cloves if using. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 4 to 5 hours, beginning to check at about 3 1/2 hours.
  4. Check the thickest part of the ham with a thermometer and continue cooking until it is heated throughout and reaches approximately 140°F. Baste once or twice with the cooking liquid if practical, keeping the lid closed as much as possible.
  5. Rest the ham for 10 to 15 minutes before serving. Spoon the syrupy juices over the slices, or broil the ham in a foil-lined pan for 2 to 4 minutes for a darker, stickier finish.

Notes

Use a fully cooked ham because the slow cooker is reheating it and setting the glaze. Avoid cooking much longer than necessary, since spiral slices can dry out. If the lid does not fit, trim a small amount from the ham or cover the cooker loosely with foil until the ham settles.
