Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 15-ounce cans Sliced peaches in heavy syrup, undrained
  • 1 15.25-ounce box Yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) Unsalted butter, melted or very thinly sliced

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  2. Pour both cans of sliced peaches and all of their heavy syrup evenly into the prepared dish.
  3. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the peaches. Do not prepare the mix according to the package directions, and do not stir the layers together.
  4. Drizzle melted butter over the entire cake-mix surface, or arrange very thin slices of cold butter across the top.
  5. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the peach filling bubbles around the edges.
  6. Let the cake stand for 10 to 15 minutes before serving. Spoon it into bowls and serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Keep the peaches undrained because the syrup provides the moisture needed to hydrate the cake mix. Cover as much of the dry mix as possible with butter to prevent powdery spots. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator and reheat gently before serving.
