Step-by-Step
- Fill a tall highball or Collins glass with ice. Add the 2 ounces of tequila and 4 ounces of fresh orange juice.
- Slowly pour the 1/2 ounce of grenadine down the inside of the glass or over the back of a bar spoon. Let it sink and gradually rise through the drink to create the sunset layers.
- Do not stir after adding the grenadine. Garnish with an orange slice and maraschino cherry, then serve immediately.
Notes
Use fresh, well-chilled orange juice for the brightest flavor. Add grenadine last and pour slowly so the red-to-gold gradient remains visible. Vodka may replace tequila for a softer variation, or 1/2 ounce of lime juice may be added for extra acidity, although lime is not part of the standard Tequila Sunrise-style formula.
