Ingredients

Cocktail
  • 2 oz (60 ml) Blanco tequila
  • 4 oz (120 ml) Fresh orange juice
  • 1/2 oz (15 ml) Grenadine
  • as needed Ice
Garnish
  • 1 slice Orange slice
  • 1 cherry Maraschino cherry

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Fill a tall highball or Collins glass with ice. Add the 2 ounces of tequila and 4 ounces of fresh orange juice.
  2. Slowly pour the 1/2 ounce of grenadine down the inside of the glass or over the back of a bar spoon. Let it sink and gradually rise through the drink to create the sunset layers.
  3. Do not stir after adding the grenadine. Garnish with an orange slice and maraschino cherry, then serve immediately.

Notes

Use fresh, well-chilled orange juice for the brightest flavor. Add grenadine last and pour slowly so the red-to-gold gradient remains visible. Vodka may replace tequila for a softer variation, or 1/2 ounce of lime juice may be added for extra acidity, although lime is not part of the standard Tequila Sunrise-style formula.
