Step-by-Step
- Heat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, or use an ungreased baking sheet.
- Unroll and separate the crescent dough into triangles. Cut each triangle lengthwise into narrow strips approximately 1/4–1/2 inch wide, aiming for roughly 30–32 strips.
- If using cheese, place a small strip or piece along each hot dog. Stretch the dough strips slightly and wrap them around the hot dogs in an irregular pattern, leaving a small uncovered area near one end for the face.
- Place the wrapped hot dogs seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10–13 minutes, or until the crescent dough is puffed and golden brown.
- Let the mummy dogs cool briefly, then pipe or dot two small mustard or ketchup eyes onto the uncovered face area. Serve warm.
Notes
Stretch the dough strips slightly to create uneven bandages and help the dough go farther. Leave visible gaps around the face so the eyes remain distinct. Use eight hot dogs for thicker, more generously wrapped mummies or ten for the classic Pillsbury-style yield.
