Ingredients

Salmon
  • 4 fillets Salmon fillets, about 5–6 ounces each
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
Spicy Honey Glaze
  • 3 tablespoons Honey
  • 2 tablespoons Sriracha or other hot sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh lime juice or lemon juice
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
Seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper
Optional Additions
  • 1/4 teaspoon Smoked paprika, red-pepper flakes, or cayenne
Optional Garnish
  • As needed Sliced green onions, sesame seeds, lime wedges, or chopped cilantro

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Pat the salmon dry and season both sides with the kosher salt and black pepper.
  2. Whisk the honey, sriracha, soy sauce, lime or lemon juice, garlic, and optional smoked paprika or red-pepper flakes in a small bowl.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large nonstick or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Place the salmon in the skillet, skin-side down if the fillets have skin. Cook for about 4–5 minutes, until mostly opaque around the sides and easy to release.
  5. Carefully turn the salmon and cook for another 2–3 minutes.
  6. Reduce the heat to medium-low and pour in the honey mixture. Spoon the glaze over the salmon and cook for 1–3 minutes, turning or basting once, until the sauce thickens and the salmon is cooked through.
  7. Serve immediately with the extra glaze from the skillet and your preferred garnishes.

Notes

For food safety, cook salmon to 145°F (63°C) in the thickest part. Many cooks remove it at approximately 140–145°F because the temperature can rise slightly while resting. For an oven method, heat the oven to 400°F (205°C), place seasoned salmon on a lined baking sheet, brush with glaze, and bake for 10–12 minutes, brushing again halfway through. Broil for 1–2 minutes at the end if desired.
