  • 2 1/2 ounces Soft goat cheese or blue cheese

  • 2 ounces Prosciutto
  • 2 ounces Genoa salami
  • 2 ounces Soppressata or another dry-cured sausage
Crackers and Bread
  • 4 ounces Assorted crackers
  • 2 ounces Thinly sliced baguette or crostini
Fresh Fruit
  • 1 cup Seedless grapes
  • 1 cup Strawberries, hulled
  • 1 small Pear or apple, optional and thinly sliced
Dried Fruit
  • 1/3 cup Dried apricots, figs, or dates
Savory Accompaniments
  • 1/2 cup Olives
  • 1/3 cup Cornichons or other small pickles
  • 1/3 cup Roasted or spiced nuts
Sweet Accompaniments
  • 2 tablespoons Fig jam, fruit preserves, or honey
  • 2 ounces Dark chocolate
Optional Garnish
  • 2–3 small sprigs Fresh rosemary or thyme
  • as needed Edible flowers or pomegranate seeds

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Remove the cheeses from the refrigerator 30–60 minutes before serving. Keep the Brie and goat cheese mostly whole, then slice or crumble the aged cheddar or other firm cheese for easy serving.
  2. Fold the prosciutto into loose ribbons and arrange the salami and soppressata in halves, quarters, or small overlapping rows. Set the meats aside while you position the board anchors.
  3. Place small bowls of olives, pickles, jam or honey, and nuts on the board first. These bowls divide the flavors, keep wet ingredients away from crackers, and create a natural structure for the arrangement.
  4. Add the cheeses in separate areas, leaving enough space between varieties for each one to be identified. Place the cured meats near the cheeses, pairing salty slices with creamy, firm, or strongly flavored bites.
  5. Fill the open spaces with crackers, baguette slices, grapes, strawberries, optional apple or pear slices, dried fruit, and dark chocolate. Add crackers shortly before serving so they stay crisp.
  6. Finish with rosemary or thyme, edible flowers, or a few pomegranate seeds. Serve immediately with small cheese knives, spoons for the spreads, and cocktail napkins.

Notes

For the prettiest date-night presentation, use a small round board or create a loose heart shape without crowding the ingredients. Keep olives, pickles, jam, honey, and other wet foods in small bowls. Serve the cheeses at room temperature for the best flavor and texture.
