Step-by-Step
- Scrub the potatoes well under cool running water and dry them thoroughly. Pierce each potato several times with a fork, then rub with olive oil and sprinkle evenly with kosher salt.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) if your model requires preheating. Arrange the potatoes in a single layer with space around them for air circulation.
- Air-fry the potatoes for about 35–50 minutes, turning them once halfway through cooking. Begin checking smaller potatoes around 35 minutes, while very large potatoes may need 50–60 minutes.
- Test each potato by inserting a knife or skewer into the center. It should slide in easily, or the center should register approximately 205–210°F internally.
- Cut the potatoes open immediately and fluff the centers with a fork. Add butter, sour cream, chives, cheese, bacon, or other desired toppings, then serve hot.
Notes
Do not wrap the potatoes in foil because foil prevents the skin from becoming crisp. Cooking time depends mainly on potato diameter, so use a knife, skewer, or thermometer rather than appearance alone to judge doneness.
