Step-by-Step
- Heat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with foil or parchment. Brown the Italian sausage in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks, then drain excess fat and let the sausage cool slightly.
- Cut the bread loaf lengthwise and carefully remove some of the soft interior, leaving a shell about 1/2 inch thick. Reserve the removed bread for breadcrumbs or another use, and toast the hollowed loaf for 3–5 minutes first if you prefer a firmer crust.
- Spread about 1/2 cup of pizza sauce inside the hollowed loaf. Add the sausage, pepperoni, bacon, ham, mozzarella, and Parmesan in even layers or gently mix them before filling the bread.
- Spoon the remaining 1/2 cup pizza sauce into small pockets across the filling rather than pouring it all in one place. This keeps the loaf flavorful without adding too much moisture.
- Close the loaf and place it on the lined baking sheet. Stir the melted butter with the minced garlic and Italian seasoning, then brush the mixture over the top and sides of the bread.
- Wrap the loaf loosely in foil and bake for 15–20 minutes, until the bread is hot and the cheese is melted. Open the foil and bake for another 5 minutes so the top becomes golden and lightly crisp.
- Let the stuffed bread rest for 5 minutes before slicing it into thick pieces. Sprinkle with chopped parsley if desired and serve warm with extra pizza sauce for dipping.
Notes
Use fully cooked meats so the bread can brown before any raw meat would need additional cooking time. Drain the sausage and blot greasy meats before assembling. Refrigerate leftovers promptly and reheat in a 350°F oven until hot.
