Step-by-Step
- Heat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
- Brown the lean ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
- Stir the spaghetti or marinara sauce into the cooked beef and heat until the mixture is well combined.
- Spread about half of the frozen cheese ravioli across the prepared baking dish. Spoon half of the meat sauce over the ravioli.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining frozen ravioli and meat sauce. Sprinkle the mozzarella and optional Parmesan evenly over the top.
- Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 30-35 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 5-10 minutes, until the cheese has melted and is lightly browned.
- Let the casserole stand for 5-10 minutes before serving so the sauce can thicken and the portions can be lifted more neatly.
Notes
Bake the ravioli from frozen unless using a recipe specifically written for thawed pasta. For a meatless version, omit the ground beef and use two jars of marinara or one larger jar of sauce. Refrigerated ravioli may cook faster, often needing about 25-30 minutes covered.
