Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb Lean ground beef
  • 1 jar, about 24-26 oz Spaghetti or marinara sauce
  • 1 package, about 25 oz Frozen cheese ravioli
  • 1 cup Shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
Optional Toppings
  • 1/4 cup Grated Parmesan
  • To taste Italian seasoning
  • To taste Chopped parsley

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  2. Brown the lean ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  3. Stir the spaghetti or marinara sauce into the cooked beef and heat until the mixture is well combined.
  4. Spread about half of the frozen cheese ravioli across the prepared baking dish. Spoon half of the meat sauce over the ravioli.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining frozen ravioli and meat sauce. Sprinkle the mozzarella and optional Parmesan evenly over the top.
  6. Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for another 5-10 minutes, until the cheese has melted and is lightly browned.
  8. Let the casserole stand for 5-10 minutes before serving so the sauce can thicken and the portions can be lifted more neatly.

Notes

Bake the ravioli from frozen unless using a recipe specifically written for thawed pasta. For a meatless version, omit the ground beef and use two jars of marinara or one larger jar of sauce. Refrigerated ravioli may cook faster, often needing about 25-30 minutes covered.
