Ingredients

Burger Patties
  • 1 pound (454 g) Ground chicken
  • 1 packet, about 1 ounce (28 g) Dry ranch seasoning mix
  • 1/2 cup Finely shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup Plain or Italian-seasoned panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 Large egg
  • 1 tablespoon, plus more for cooking Olive oil
For Serving
  • 4 Hamburger buns
  • As needed Lettuce, tomato, red onion, or pickles
  • Optional Ranch dressing or mayonnaise

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Add the ground chicken, dry ranch seasoning, shredded cheddar, panko breadcrumbs, egg, and olive oil to a mixing bowl. Gently mix with a fork or clean hands just until the ingredients are combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick. Press a shallow indentation into the center of each patty to help prevent doming as it cooks.
  3. Refrigerate the shaped patties for 15 to 30 minutes if desired. This brief chilling period makes the soft chicken mixture easier to handle and helps the burgers hold their shape.
  4. Heat a lightly oiled grill or skillet over medium to medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 5 to 6 minutes per side, turning once, until browned and the center reaches 165°F (74°C).
  5. Toast the hamburger buns if desired, then place each cooked chicken burger on a bun. Add lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles, and ranch dressing or mayonnaise before serving.

Notes

Do not overmix the chicken, and use an instant-read thermometer to confirm 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part. Ranch seasoning is already salty, so avoid adding extra salt until tasting. Refrigerate leftovers promptly and reheat gently until hot.
