Step-by-Step
- Heat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 1 1/2- to 2-quart baking dish.
- Beat the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise until smooth and creamy.
- Stir in the cheddar, mozzarella, chopped jalapeños, half of the Parmesan, garlic powder, and black pepper. Fold in the drained green chiles or crumbled bacon if using.
- Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Combine the remaining Parmesan with the panko breadcrumbs, then scatter the mixture evenly over the dip.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, until the dip is hot, bubbling around the edges, and lightly golden on top. Broil briefly at the end if a darker crust is desired.
- Rest the dip for about 5 minutes before serving hot with tortilla chips, crackers, toasted bread, or vegetables.
Notes
Soften the cream cheese fully to prevent lumps. Freshly shredded cheese melts smoothly, and jalapeño heat can vary, so taste the peppers before adding them. Do not overbake, since prolonged heating can cause the dairy mixture to separate.
