Ingredients

Cherry Filling
  • 1 can, about 21 ounces Sour-cherry pie filling
  • 1/4 cup Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey
Topping
  • 1 box, about 15–18 ounces Yellow cake mix, dry
  • 1/2 cup, 1 stick Butter, melted
  • 1/2 to 1 cup, optional Chopped pecans

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  2. Stir the Jack Daniel's into the sour-cherry pie filling, then spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the cherry layer. Do not stir the cake mix into the filling.
  4. Drizzle the melted butter over as much of the cake mix as possible, then scatter the chopped pecans over the top if using.
  5. Bake for 45–50 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the cherry filling bubbles around the edges.
  6. Let the cobbler stand for 10–15 minutes before serving so the fruit thickens and the whiskey flavor mellows.

Notes

Distribute the melted butter as evenly as possible to prevent powdery dry patches. If a few areas of cake mix still look dry, add an extra tablespoon or two of butter over those spots before baking. Do not add extra whiskey after baking unless you want a noticeably stronger flavor.
