Step-by-Step
- Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt together in a medium bowl.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened vegan butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until creamy.
- Mix in the plant milk and vanilla extract. The mixture may look slightly curdled, which is normal.
- Add the dry ingredients and mix only until no dry flour remains. Fold in the dairy-free chocolate chips.
- Portion the dough into rounded tablespoons and arrange the portions about 2 inches apart on the prepared sheets. Chill the portions for about 30 minutes if the dough is soft or spreading.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden while the centers still look slightly soft.
- Cool the cookies on the baking sheet for 5–10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack. They will firm as they cool.
Notes
For reliable results, use firm vegan butter from a block or stick rather than a very soft tub spread. Measure flour by weight when possible, or spoon it into a measuring cup and level it. Check chocolate labels for milk, whey, or shared-equipment warnings when strict dairy avoidance is important. Store cooled cookies in an airtight container.
