Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb (450 g) Lean ground beef
  • 1 small Small yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 10.5 oz can (298 g) Condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup Sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups Frozen mixed vegetables
  • 1 cup (4 oz/115 g) Shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 32 oz bag (907 g) Frozen tater tots
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
  2. Brown the ground beef and diced onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat for about 6–8 minutes, breaking the meat into small pieces until it is no longer pink.
  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  4. Stir in the condensed cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and frozen mixed vegetables until evenly combined.
  5. Stir in 1/2 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Spread the beef mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish and arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer over the top.
  7. Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, until the filling is bubbling and the tater tots are browned and crisp.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup cheddar over the casserole and bake for another 5–10 minutes, until the cheese melts. Rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Keep the tater tots frozen and arrange them in a single layer for the crispiest topping. Bake on the upper-middle oven rack and do not cover the dish unless the tots are browning too quickly; in that case, loosely tent it near the end.
