Step-by-Step
- Heat the oven according to the brownie-mix package directions, generally 350°F (175°C). Grease or foil-line a 13-by-9-inch baking pan.
- Prepare the brownie batter using the water, vegetable oil, and eggs listed on the package. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan.
- Bake according to the package directions, generally 25–30 minutes. Cool the brownies completely, about 1 hour, before cutting and decorating.
- Lift the brownie slab from the pan if foil or parchment was used, then cut it into 16 squares. Spread each square with vanilla frosting.
- Place one large marshmallow on each frosted brownie as the snowman’s head. Add black icing for eyes and mouths, orange icing for carrot noses, and red candies or sprinkles for buttons.
- Add one peppermint candy to each brownie as a festive accent and insert pretzel pieces for optional arms. Let the icing set briefly before serving or storing.
Notes
Cool the brownies completely before frosting so the frosting does not melt and the marshmallows do not slide. For clean squares, line the pan with foil or parchment overhang, use a lightly greased knife, and wipe it between cuts.
