Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 package (3 oz/85 g) Orange-flavored gelatin
  • 1 cup Boiling water
  • 1/2 cup Cold water
  • 1 container (8 oz/226 g) Frozen whipped topping, thawed
Fruit
  • 1 can (15 oz/425 g) Mandarin oranges, well drained
  • 1 can (8 oz/227 g) Crushed pineapple, well drained
Optional Additions
  • 1 cup Small marshmallows
  • 1 cup Cottage cheese

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Dissolve the orange gelatin in 1 cup boiling water in a large bowl, stirring until no crystals remain. Stir in 1/2 cup cold water.
  2. Refrigerate the gelatin mixture for about 20–30 minutes, until it begins to thicken but is not fully set.
  3. Fold in the thawed whipped topping. Gently fold in the well-drained mandarin oranges, crushed pineapple, and optional cottage cheese and marshmallows.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably 2–4 hours, until chilled and fluffy. Serve cold.

Notes

Drain the mandarin oranges and crushed pineapple very thoroughly so the dessert does not become loose or watery. Do not fold in the whipped topping while the gelatin is hot or completely liquid. Keep the covered dessert refrigerated and serve within 1–2 days.
