Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound Fully cooked kielbasa or smoked sausage, thinly sliced
  • 1 crust Prepared 12-inch pizza crust or refrigerated pizza dough
  • 1/2-3/4 cup Pizza sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
Vegetables
  • 1/2 pepper Medium green bell pepper, chopped or thinly sliced
  • 1/4 onion Medium onion, thinly sliced or chopped
Cooking and Seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil, for sautéing or brushing the crust
  • 1/4 teaspoon Dried Italian seasoning, optional
  • 1 pinch Crushed red pepper, optional

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 425°F. If using a pizza stone or steel, place it in the oven while it preheats.
  2. Pat the sliced kielbasa dry, then heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the kielbasa, onion, and green bell pepper and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, until the vegetables begin to soften and the sausage is lightly browned. Drain excess grease if needed.
  3. Stretch or roll the dough into a 12-inch round. Place it on a greased baking sheet or pizza pan, or carefully transfer it to the preheated stone.
  4. Spread 1/2 to 3/4 cup pizza sauce over the dough, leaving about a 1/2-inch border around the edge.
  5. Sprinkle the mozzarella over the sauce, then distribute the browned kielbasa, onion, and bell pepper mixture across the cheese. Add Italian seasoning or a pinch of crushed red pepper if desired.
  6. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbling. Let the pizza rest for 3 to 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Pat kielbasa dry and brown it briefly before assembling the pizza to improve flavor and reduce excess grease. Avoid using too much sauce or piling on excessive toppings so the crust can bake through and stay crisp.
