Ingredients

Chicken
  • 1 lb (450 g) Boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Paprika
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Neutral cooking oil, such as canola or avocado oil
Honey Garlic Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Honey
  • 1/4 cup Low-sodium soy sauce
  • 4 cloves Garlic, finely minced
  • 1 tablespoon Rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon Red pepper flakes, optional
  • 1 teaspoon Toasted sesame oil, optional
For Serving
  • As needed Sliced green onions
  • As needed Sesame seeds
  • As needed Lemon or lime wedges, optional

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Pat the chicken dry and cut it into evenly sized 1-inch pieces. Season with kosher salt, black pepper, and paprika, then toss with cornstarch until lightly coated.
  2. Whisk together the honey, low-sodium soy sauce, minced garlic, vinegar, and optional red pepper flakes in a small bowl.
  3. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Arrange the chicken in a single layer and cook in batches if necessary.
  4. Cook the chicken for about 3-4 minutes per side, turning until golden brown and the thickest pieces reach 165°F (74°C).
  5. Reduce the heat to medium-low, add the butter, and pour in the honey garlic sauce. Simmer for 1-3 minutes, tossing often, until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the chicken.
  6. Finish with optional toasted sesame oil. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds, then serve immediately with lemon or lime wedges if desired.

Notes

Dry the chicken thoroughly for better browning, and add the honey sauce only after the chicken is cooked through. Keep the heat moderate while the sauce reduces because honey can scorch quickly.
