Step-by-Step
- Heat the oven to 350°F and grease a 2-quart casserole dish.
- Cook the medium egg noodles according to the package directions, stopping when they are just tender. Drain them well.
- In a large bowl, combine the cubed ham, undiluted cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, milk, salt, and black pepper.
- Stir the drained noodles into the creamy ham mixture until evenly coated.
- Transfer the noodle mixture to the greased casserole dish and sprinkle the shredded Swiss cheese evenly over the top.
- Combine the dry breadcrumbs with the melted butter, then scatter the buttery crumbs over the cheese.
- Bake the casserole uncovered for 20–25 minutes, until hot throughout and lightly browned on top. Let it stand for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Cook the noodles only until just tender so they do not become soft during baking. Shred Swiss cheese from a block for a smoother melt and stronger cheese flavor. If the topping browns too quickly, loosely cover the dish with foil. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator and reheat until hot.
