Step-by-Step
- Line a large baking sheet or two smaller baking sheets with parchment paper. Pop the popcorn, remove every unpopped kernel, and spread the popcorn over the prepared sheet.
- Add the mini pretzels, candy corn, and Halloween-colored chocolate candies to the popcorn. Toss gently so the ingredients are distributed without crushing the popcorn.
- Place the white chocolate chips or candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 20- to 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until completely smooth.
- Drizzle the melted coating over the popcorn mixture. Gently toss with a large spatula or clean hands until most of the snack mix has a light coating.
- Immediately sprinkle the Halloween sprinkles over the wet coating. Add the optional fine salt only if the popcorn is unsalted.
- Spread the mixture into an even layer and let it cool at room temperature until firm, usually 20 to 30 minutes. Break it into pieces before serving.
Notes
Use plain or lightly salted popcorn for the best sweet-and-salty balance. Avoid butter-flavored microwave popcorn if you want an even coating, since excess oil can interfere with the melted chocolate. For cleaner pieces, chill the finished snack for 10 to 15 minutes, then let it return to room temperature before serving. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 to 4 days.
