Step-by-Step
- Heat the oil in a large heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat. Add 2 or 3 popcorn kernels and cover the pot.
- When the test kernels pop, add the remaining popcorn kernels and cover the pot again. Shake the pot occasionally while the kernels pop.
- Remove the pot from the heat when the popping slows to about 2 seconds between pops. Transfer the popcorn to a large bowl, leaving any unpopped kernels behind.
- Drizzle the melted butter over the popcorn in two or three additions, tossing continuously after each addition. This helps the butter coat more pieces without creating soggy patches.
- Shake or stir the everything bagel seasoning immediately before sprinkling it over the popcorn. Toss thoroughly, taste, and add fine salt only if needed before serving immediately.
Notes
Everything bagel seasoning usually contains salt, so taste before adding more. For the best texture, serve the popcorn immediately. Tossing with butter in several additions distributes the coating more evenly.
