Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon Toasted sesame oil, divided
  • 1 pound Ground pork
  • 1 Small yellow onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh ginger, grated or finely minced
  • 1 14-ounce bag Coleslaw mix with shredded cabbage and carrots
Sauce and Seasoning
  • 1/4 cup Low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Rice vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red-pepper flakes
Garnish
  • 2 Green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame seeds
Optional Toppings
  • To taste Sriracha or chili-garlic sauce
  • To taste Additional sliced green onion, cilantro, or extra sesame oil

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat about 1 teaspoon of the toasted sesame oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground pork and cook for 5–7 minutes, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and fully cooked.
  2. Add the finely diced onion to the skillet and cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and ginger, then cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add the coleslaw mix and stir it into the pork mixture. Cook for 4–6 minutes, stirring often, until the cabbage and carrots soften but remain pleasantly tender-crisp.
  4. Stir in the low-sodium soy sauce, rice vinegar, remaining sesame oil, and red-pepper flakes. Cook for 1–2 minutes so the sauce coats the filling and the flavors combine.
  5. Taste the mixture and adjust the soy sauce, vinegar, or spice as desired. Top with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, then serve immediately with optional Sriracha or chili-garlic sauce.

Notes

Use pre-shredded coleslaw mix for the fastest preparation. Keep the cabbage tender-crisp by avoiding overcooking, and add most of the toasted sesame oil near the end to preserve its aroma. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheat gently in a skillet or microwave.
