Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 8 medium Medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced into wedges or 1/2-inch slices
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) Unsalted butter, sliced or cubed
  • 1 cup Packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Peel, core, and slice 8 apples evenly into wedges or 1/2-inch slices.
  2. Place the apples in the crockpot, then sprinkle the packed light brown sugar and ground cinnamon evenly over them.
  3. Distribute the sliced or cubed unsalted butter over the top of the apples.
  4. Cover and cook on LOW for 3–4 hours or HIGH for 1 1/2–2 hours, checking early because slow cookers vary.
  5. Stir gently once or twice during cooking, stopping when the apples are tender but still retain some shape.
  6. Serve warm as a side dish, over pancakes or waffles, with pork, or with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Use firm apples such as Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, Fuji, or a combination. Do not add water; the apples release enough moisture as they cook. Stir gently and infrequently to keep the slices from breaking down into applesauce.
