Total Time 2 minutes
Servings: 6 servings

Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 box (15.25 ounces) Chocolate cake mix, preferably devil’s food or chocolate fudge
  • 1 box (3.9 ounces) Instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 3 cups Whole or 2% milk
  • 2 cups Semisweet chocolate chips
Optional for Serving
  • As needed Vanilla ice cream
  • As desired Whipped cream, extra chocolate sauce, or berries

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Lightly grease a 5- to 6-quart slow cooker with nonstick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry chocolate cake mix and instant chocolate pudding mix.
  3. Add the milk and whisk until smooth. The batter will be fairly thick.
  4. Stir in the semisweet chocolate chips, distributing them throughout the thick batter.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared slow cooker and spread it evenly.
  6. Cover and cook on HIGH for about 2 hours. Begin checking at 2 hours; the edges should look set while the center remains soft and pudding-like. Some slow cookers may need up to 2 1/2 hours.
  7. Turn off the slow cooker and let the cake stand, covered, for 10 to 15 minutes.
  8. Spoon the warm cake into bowls and serve immediately with vanilla ice cream or another preferred topping.

Notes

Use instant pudding mix, not cook-and-serve pudding. Do not add eggs, oil, or water. Keep the lid closed during cooking because releasing heat and steam can extend the cooking time. The cake is meant to be spooned from the slow cooker rather than turned out like a conventional cake.
