Ingredients

Apple Filling
  • 6 medium apples, about 3 pounds Medium baking apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/3 cup Packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
Cobbler Topping
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup Packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Lightly grease a 4- to 6-quart slow cooker.
  2. Toss the sliced apples with brown sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Transfer the seasoned apples to the slow cooker and spread them evenly.
  4. Combine the topping flour, oats, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt in a second bowl.
  5. Stir in melted butter, milk, and vanilla until a thick, spoonable batter forms.
  6. Drop the topping in small spoonfuls over the apples, leaving a few open spaces for steam to escape.
  7. Cover and cook on LOW for 3–4 hours, until the apples are tender and the topping is cooked through.
  8. Let the cobbler stand uncovered for 10–15 minutes before serving warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Choose firm baking apples such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Braeburn, or a combination. Avoid lifting the lid repeatedly. For a less wet topping, place a clean kitchen towel under the lid during the final 30–45 minutes, keeping it secured away from the heating element. Refrigerate leftovers in a covered container for up to 3–4 days.
