Total Time 2 minutes
Servings: 6 servings

Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 750-ml bottle Dry red wine, preferably Pinot Noir, Merlot, or a dry Spanish red
  • 1 cup Cranberry juice, unsweetened for a less-sweet drink or cranberry juice cocktail for a sweeter drink
  • 1/2 cup Orange juice
  • 1/4 cup Brandy or orange liqueur such as Triple Sec or Grand Marnier
Fruit and Spice
  • 1/2 cup Fresh cranberries
  • 1 whole Orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 whole Apple, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1 stick Cinnamon stick
To Serve
  • 1/2 cup Club soda, sparkling water, or lemon-lime soda
  • As needed Ice

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Add the fresh cranberries, thin orange slices, apple slices, and optional cinnamon stick to a large pitcher.
  2. Pour in the dry red wine, cranberry juice, orange juice, and brandy or orange liqueur. Stir well to combine.
  3. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. For a fuller fruit flavor, chill the sangria for 4 to 8 hours.
  4. Stir the sangria again before serving, then add the club soda, sparkling water, or lemon-lime soda immediately before pouring.
  5. Serve over ice and garnish each glass with a few cranberries and a slice of orange or apple.

Notes

Use a dry red wine because the juice, fruit, and optional soda contribute sweetness. Remove orange seeds and avoid adding excessive white pith for a clearer, less bitter flavor. Keep the sparkling mixer out of the pitcher until serving so it does not lose carbonation.
