Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 box, about 15.25 oz (432 g) Yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) Neutral vegetable oil, such as canola
  • 2 eggs Large eggs
  • 1 cup (about 170 g) Semisweet chocolate chips
Optional Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup Additional chocolate chips for topping
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Stir together the dry yellow cake mix, vegetable oil, and eggs until a thick dough forms. Stir in the vanilla extract if using.
  3. Fold in one cup of semisweet chocolate chips until they are evenly distributed. Chill the dough for 20–30 minutes if it feels too sticky or if you prefer thicker cookies.
  4. Scoop approximately 1 1/2 tablespoons of dough for each cookie and place the portions about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets. Press a few additional chocolate chips on top if desired.
  5. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are set while the centers still look slightly soft.
  6. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Notes

Do not overbake. These cookies firm up as they cool, so removing them while the centers are still soft helps preserve their chewy texture. Store cooled cookies in an airtight container.
