Step-by-Step
- Heat the oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
- Cook the bacon until crisp, drain it well, cool slightly, and crumble it.
- If the chicken breasts are thick, pound them to an even thickness of about 3/4 inch.
- Rub the chicken with olive oil and black pepper, then arrange the breasts in the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle the ranch seasoning evenly over the chicken.
- Scatter the crumbled bacon over the chicken, then cover with the cheddar and mozzarella.
- Bake uncovered for 25 to 35 minutes, depending on chicken thickness, until the center of the thickest breast reaches 165°F.
- Rest the bake for about 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
Drain the bacon well to avoid excess grease. Use an instant-read thermometer and remove the chicken when it reaches 165°F. Chicken tenders or thin-sliced breasts may bake in roughly 20 to 25 minutes. For a creamier version, some cooks add 1/2 cup ranch dressing or mayonnaise beneath the cheese.
