Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup (226 g) Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups (300 g) Light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 large Large egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups (300-315 g) All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Beat the softened butter and firmly packed brown sugar for 2 to 3 minutes, until light and creamy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth and fully incorporated.
  4. Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the butter mixture, stopping as soon as the dough comes together.
  6. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared sheets, leaving about 2 inches between portions.
  7. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until the edges are set and lightly browned while the centers remain slightly soft.
  8. Cool the cookies on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack.

Notes

Pack the brown sugar firmly into the measuring cup. If the dough spreads too much, chill it for 30 to 60 minutes before baking, especially in a warm kitchen. Do not overbake; the centers finish setting as the cookies cool.
