Step-by-Step
- Heat the oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
- Brown the ground beef and diced onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat for about 6–8 minutes, breaking the meat into small crumbles as it cooks. Drain the skillet well if needed.
- Add the minced garlic, kosher salt, and black pepper. Cook for 30–60 seconds, just until the garlic smells fragrant.
- Stir in the ketchup, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, condensed cheddar cheese soup, and milk. Simmer for 2–3 minutes, stirring until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Stir in the chopped dill pickles and 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese. Spread the beef mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Arrange the frozen tater tots or shredded hash browns over the beef mixture, then sprinkle the remaining 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
- Bake uncovered for 35–45 minutes, until the casserole is hot and bubbling and the potatoes are browned. If your frozen potato package lists different timing, follow the package directions.
- Let the casserole rest for 5–10 minutes before serving. Add shredded lettuce, extra pickles, diced onion, sesame seeds, and burger sauce immediately before eating.
Notes
For the sauce, mix 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons ketchup, 1 tablespoon yellow mustard, 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish, and optional 1/4 teaspoon paprika. Refrigerate until needed. For stronger Big Mac flavor, add about 1 tablespoon pickle juice to the sauce. Use 90–93% lean beef and drain the skillet well for a less greasy casserole.
