Step-by-Step
- Peel the carrots if desired, trim the ends, and cut them into evenly sized sticks or diagonal slices about 1/2 inch thick. Pat them dry, then toss with olive oil, kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) if the manufacturer recommends preheating. Arrange the carrots in a single layer in the basket without packing them too tightly.
- Air-fry for 12 to 18 minutes, shaking the basket or turning the carrots halfway through cooking. Start checking smaller pieces around 10 to 12 minutes, and continue until the carrots are browned at the edges and easily pierced with a fork.
- Transfer the cooked carrots to a serving bowl. Toss with honey, maple syrup, melted butter, Italian seasoning, dried thyme, or fresh parsley if using, and serve warm.
Notes
Use uniform carrot pieces and avoid overcrowding the basket so the carrots brown instead of steaming. For a sweeter finish, add honey or maple syrup after cooking because sugars can darken quickly in the air fryer. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the air fryer until warm.
