Step-by-Step
- Heat the oven to 375°F. Brown the lean ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it into small crumbles as it cooks, then drain any excess fat.
- Stir the 26-ounce jar of tomato-basil or marinara pasta sauce into the cooked beef. Warm the mixture briefly so the sauce and meat are evenly combined.
- Spread about 1 cup of the meat sauce over the bottom of a 13-by-9-inch baking dish. Add a layer of oven-ready noodles, half of the ricotta, more meat sauce, and part of the mozzarella.
- Repeat the layers with noodles, the remaining ricotta, more meat sauce, and more mozzarella. Finish with noodles, the remaining meat sauce, and the remaining mozzarella.
- Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for about 10 minutes more, until the cheese is melted and lightly browned.
- Let the lasagna stand for 10 minutes before cutting. This resting period allows the layers to set and makes the slices easier to serve.
Notes
Keep the pan tightly covered during the first bake so the oven-ready noodles absorb enough moisture from the sauce. Refrigerate leftovers promptly and reheat individual portions until hot throughout.
