Ingredients

Dough and Filling
  • 1 tube, about 8 ounces Refrigerated crescent-roll dough or crescent dough sheet
  • 4 ounces Sliced deli ham
  • 4 ounces Sliced salami
  • 4 ounces Sliced pepperoni
  • 4 ounces Sliced prosciutto
  • 6 ounces Sliced provolone or mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Softened cream cheese
Seasoning and Topping
  • 1 tablespoon Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 egg Large egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon, optional Sesame seeds or additional Parmesan

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough and press the seams together to form one rectangle. If using pizza dough instead, roll it into a rectangle roughly 12 by 8 inches.
  3. Spread the softened cream cheese over the dough, if using. Sprinkle evenly with Parmesan, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder.
  4. Layer the ham, salami, pepperoni, prosciutto, and cheese evenly over the dough, leaving about 1/2 inch uncovered along one long edge.
  5. Starting at the opposite long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seam closed so the filling stays inside.
  6. Chill the rolled log for 15 to 30 minutes so it firms up and can be sliced neatly.
  7. Cut the log into approximately 24 slices, each about 1/2 inch thick. Arrange them cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds or additional Parmesan, if desired.
  9. Bake for 12 to 16 minutes, until the dough is puffed and golden and the cheese has melted.
  10. Rest the pinwheels for 5 minutes before serving warm with marinara sauce, pizza sauce, or Italian dressing.

Notes

Chilling before slicing is strongly recommended for round, tidy pinwheels. Do not overfill or create thick overlapping meat layers. Pizza dough or puff pastry may replace crescent dough, and mortadella may replace prosciutto.
