Step-by-Step
- Lightly grease the bottom of a slow cooker, then place the four chicken breasts inside in a single layer when possible.
- Pour the entire can of Manwich sauce over the chicken, spreading it as evenly as possible so the breasts are well coated.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours or on HIGH for 2 to 3 hours, until the thickest part of the chicken reaches 165°F and the meat can be easily pierced with a fork.
- Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella or cheddar over the cooked chicken. Cover again and cook for about 10 to 15 minutes, just until the cheese melts.
- Serve the chicken whole, sliced, or shredded, with plenty of the Manwich sauce spooned over each portion.
Notes
Use chicken breasts with similar thickness, or lightly pound very thick pieces so they cook evenly. Check doneness with an instant-read thermometer rather than relying only on the cooking time. Add the cheese during the final 10 to 15 minutes so it does not become oily or overcooked.
