Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 20–21-ounce cans Apple pie filling
  • 1 15.25-ounce box (432 g), dry Spice cake mix
  • 1 cup (2 sticks/227 g) Unsalted or salted butter, melted or very thinly sliced

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
  2. Spread both cans of apple pie filling evenly across the bottom of the prepared dish.
  3. Sprinkle the dry spice cake mix evenly over the apples. Do not prepare the cake mix according to the package directions, and do not stir the layers together.
  4. Pour the melted butter over as much of the dry cake mix as possible, or arrange very thin butter slices across the entire surface.
  5. Bake for 45–50 minutes, until the topping is browned and crisp and the apple filling is bubbling around the edges.
  6. Cool for about 10–15 minutes before spooning into bowls. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Distribute the butter very evenly to reduce dry patches. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator and reheat individual portions gently before serving.
