Ingredients

Filling
  • 8 ounces (225 g) Cream cheese, softened
  • 6-8 slices Bacon, cooked crisp and finely crumbled
  • 2 green onions Green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup (about 50 g) Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Fine salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon Black pepper
Wontons
  • 24 wrappers Square wonton wrappers, approximately 3 1/2 inches each
Sealing and Frying
  • 1 egg Large egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water
  • Enough for about 2 inches oil in the pan Vegetable or peanut oil

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Cook the bacon until crisp, drain it thoroughly, cool it, and crumble it finely. In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, bacon, green onions, cheddar, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until evenly combined.
  2. Place one wonton wrapper on a clean work surface and keep the remaining wrappers covered with a damp kitchen towel. Put about 2 teaspoons of filling in the center, brush the edges lightly with egg wash, and fold the wrapper into a triangle.
  3. Press firmly around the edges to remove trapped air and seal the wrapper. For a classic wonton shape, bring the two triangle corners together and pinch them firmly.
  4. Heat vegetable or peanut oil to 350–375°F (175–190°C) in a pan with about 2 inches of oil. Fry the wontons in small batches for about 2–3 minutes, turning once, until golden brown and crisp.
  5. Transfer the cooked wontons to a paper-towel-lined rack or plate. Serve hot with sweet chili sauce, duck sauce, or a soy-based dipping sauce.

Notes

Press out excess air and seal every edge firmly to help prevent bursting. Do not overcrowd the pan because a crowded pan lowers the oil temperature. For an air-fryer option, brush or spray the wontons with oil and air-fry at 375°F (190°C) for about 8–10 minutes, turning halfway through.
